Do I have enough space for the filter installation?

Who wants to filter WVO he needs the space for it. Best would be a garage on the ground, oil is as heavy and who wants to carry 100 litre tubs upstairs? For a filter installation itself you need approx. 2 square meters. Usually there is no bad smell.

Do I have time to do it?

The filtering itself is not very time intensive; you press a button on a pump and let a special installation system work. (explanation will follow). It is more time intensive to organize the used oil, often you won't get more than 25 litres at a take away shop, for that you may need a few hours per week.

Do I want to save money?

If you don't have money, you can't invest but if you can afford a Diesel you obvious do have the money for the filter installation. If you do that investment, you will save money. The time of amortisation is normally not more than 2 month.

What kind of filter installations is possible

The systems are the following:

- Centrifuge

- Filter fleece

- Filter

The centrifuge

With a centrifuge the oil will be filtered very quick and fine. Centrifuge can filter exact up to 0,1 µ. To drive with a standard vehicle you only need 1 µ. Vehicle with brand new engines, e.g. Mercedes need the fine filtered oil otherwise the injection pump can get in trouble sooner or later. Centrifuge are very expensive.

- 0,1 µ filter unit often not necessary

The filter fleece

Filter fleece will be used by people who are making the first step with WVO. You put a special filter fleece in a ton and pour the oil in it. It takes a couple of hours to get poor clean WVO. With this system you can filter 30 litters per hour. The output is roughly 50 % i.e. 50 % is filtered up to 1 µ

The Filtration System

I think this system is the best solution for home use. One pump and five Filter, build in a filter case, switched in line. The oil will be filtered if you just press the button as following: 80µ --> 20µ --> 10µ --> 5µ --> 1µ On what you need to pay attention with filters

You collect the WVO in big drums and after the filling leave it for a week. The fat of the oil (which is heavier than oil) will sink to the bottom. The oil will be prefiltered. You suck out of the middle of the drum that makes roughly 80 % of the total drum, and the fat will be left on the bottom. You can bring the rest back to the take away shop. Now you let the oil run in the above order. Ready, you can use it for your vehicle.

On what you need to pay attention to drive with WVO

- in winter mix the oil with diesel.

- use only cleaned and filtered 1µ WVO (otherwise the fuel filter can get blocked)
